Roy is the Enemy

Filed under: Television,The Office — Chris Erwin @ 11:53 pm

The Enemy

This is the face of the enemy. The writers of The Office have worked hard all season to cast Roy in a better light; to blandish us into viewing him with a feeling of pity, as if he is really a decent person at heart. Screw him. If you don’t agree, go back and watch season 1 and 2.

At the end of season 2, Jim laid it all on the line. The ball is now in Pam’s court. Sure Jim’s being a douche and dating Karen, someone who won’t even participate in a good old Andy pranking, but I’d probably date Quincy Jones’ daughter too if I had the chance. It’s time to man up, Pam. Give Roy a good old fashioned slap upside the head, then go do the same to Jim. It’s time to give America what it wants. More Dwight pranks from Team Jam. That and a national Pretzel Day.

mhmm

Anyway, I feel like I’m watching some fruity show like Grey’s Anatomy when I’m really talking about the greatest comedy of our time. I wasn’t this invested in the relationship between Abby Lockhart and John Carter. I didn’t give it a second thought when Laura Ingalls got a little Wilder. I can’t think of a third example at the moment, so just think of a romantic couple in a television drama and rest assured, I didn’t give this much of a crap. In fact, the only other TV couple I rooted for this much was Niles and Daphne.

I’m not sure what to make of that. Perhaps I just have a healthy sense of humor, or perhaps I’m a moron. Either way, the writers of Frasier were able to pull off the bringing together of a couple that America wanted to see well before the end of the series, and were able to craft plenty of excellent episodes even after removing the tension of secret love. So, The Office, give me Jam already! I’ll admit it, I live vicariously through a TV show. It’s like some sad nerd who lives vicariously though a tv sh…oh screw you guys.

Well, Pam may have gone home with the wrong guy at Phyllis’ wedding, but at least the universe gave Toby a little joy.

Toby! Yeah!

By the way, the animated gifs are from people over at the Something Awful forums who have more talent than I. The roy picture is just from a Google image search for ‘asshat.’ Or maybe it was ‘roy the office.’

WordPress to Your Mother

Filed under: Uncategorized — Chris Erwin @ 10:55 pm

My blog (I don’t think I like the word blog, but I think I’m stuck using it) hasn’t been updated very frequently as of late (read: ever). The old blog was coded by me, for me. In other words, it was crappy. I’d like to get better at php, and writing my own blog code is a good way to do this, but it leaves little time for actually writing blog entries. I’d find myself thinking “hey, I should write an article about [subject]!” But then I would think “Well, for a good article about [subject] I’d need to add such and such a feature to my blog code.” Inevitably, this would lead to me thinking “Screw it, Lost is on,” which would confuse me to no end, as I do not watch Lost.

So I figure, why reinvent the wheel? Why, I’ve heard good things about WordPress, and hey, they just released version 2.1! So here we are, in all of it’s fancy blogospheric Web 2.0 glory. With it I can leverage a paradigm shift, or something.

It’s actually a really slick content management system. I should have plenty of time to regale my audience of approximately zero readers with musings that nobody gives a crap about. If it works out well, I actually have an idea for a project that might be worthwhile, but more on that later (maybe).

So here we are, my first post in my new fancy WordPress blog. I’ll probably try to move some of my bigger articles over from the old code, but I have to figure out how that’s done. I bet it has to do with the upload button I see lower on this edit page. I guess I have to dump the mysql tables from the old code. Why am I thinking aloud?
